Navajo Madonna

Navajo Madonna (large version), charcoal pencil..NFS

This was the first of eight drawings of this Navajo girl (from a photograph by American master Edward Curtis in the late 1800's), and was actually done on watercolor paper, intending this to become a watercolor. I have two remaining, six others are in private collections. She has the most incredible eyes I've ever seen, and "eyes are the window to the soul".

How thankful I am to have several works from this artist gracing the walls of my home and how pleased I am to see these works so beautifully and tastefully presented.

The Allmans shared my grandmother's driveway in Macon Ga. I also knew Barry Oakley, was there the day he got his motorcycle.

Duane was killed 3 blocks from where boxer William Lawrence Stribling was killed on his motorcycle - he fought Dempsey and was knocked out in the 15th round, killed before a rematch.

Get this: Duane's grave in Macon's Rose Hill cemetary is maybe 100 feet from Stribling's! it's just too uncanny..

he was only 24. and Otis Redding from nearby Gray GA (met him once, he knew my mom) was only 26. Life just isn't fair sometimes..

thanks for comments... Jose
